Ancient Samsun

Departing from the pier the tour will begin a short panoramic city orientation tour. Samsun is the largest city on the Black Sea coast and it is a major commercial port and an industrial city. It is an ancient city which has been totally modernized and has all the traits of a commercial port. The city, with the name Amissos in ancient times, is the port where products of the whole region are exported and it hosts the annual Samsun Trade and Industry Fair. Samsun has many old churches and mosques to visit.

Kale Mosque which was built by Timurtas Pasha in 1314 will be the first stop of the tour. Then tour will continue with Mather Dolarosa Church which was built in 1846. After a short drive you will visit Dundartepe Ancient site which has 3 cultural levels of Chalcolotic, Old Bronze Age and Haitian Age. On the top of site there were a Bronze Age settlement and on the apron of the hill there Haitian settlement. There will be chance to visit ruins dated back 1500 BC. Last visit of the day will be to Tekkeköy Ancient Site which has huge settlement on second millennium BC. Tour will terminate with a short drive back to pier.
